England Playing XI for 1st ODI: Buttler makes six changes as Joe Root-Jofra Archer included vs India

England will play three ODIs against England as preparations for ICC Champions Trophy begin.

As has been their custom, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named their playing XI a day before the match. Team India is set to host England in a three-match one-day international series, starting tomorrow (Feb 6). On Wednesday, England named their playing lineup, with Joe Root returning to the setup for the first time since the Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. Interestingly, that was also hosted by India. The Jos Buttler-led side has made six changes from their last ODI match, which was against the West Indies last year.

Joe Root the MVP for England against India?

Joe Root, part of the famous ‘Fab 4’, will be extremely crucial for England. A team that likes to go gaga from ball one would be dependent on the reliability of Root, who is surely one of the best Test batters currently (if not the best). He is in some delightful white-ball form as well, having a successful campaign in the ongoing SA20 for the Paarl Royals. He scored 279 runs at an average of 55.80 and at a strike rate of 140.20 before joining the English camp in India. With 171 ODIs to his name, Root has mustered 6522 runs, including 16 centuries.

Ignorance of specialists to harm England?

Looking at the first XI doesn’t inspire much confidence on England. Given the fact that we can expect a spin-friendly track in Nagpur, Brendon McCullum has opted to include multiple multi-faceted options. The inclusion of Jacob Bethell instead of Jamie Smith just goes to show that they want numerous spin-bowling options. Smith is a much better player of spin, nonetheless. Brydon Carse has been rewarded for his performances in the five-match T20I series, with Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson sidelined to the bench. Saqib Mahmood, who can swing the ball upfront, has been selected alongside Jofra Archer, who was taken to the cleaners in the T20Is. Catch England playing XI for 1st IND vs ENG ODI below.
