DRS, March 23: One done, 73 more to go; RCB can’t break the CSK & Chennai jinx

Welcome to our special segment DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

With the first IPL 2024 match out of the way, there were more than a few talking points. Be it Ruturaj Gaikwad’s first match as skipper of the CSK, Rachin Ravindra’s tournament debut, or even a whirlwind knock from RCB’s Anuj Rawat lower down the order..they all grabbed the eyeballs on Friday, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Apart from that, there were a few noteworthy events, that transpired with the other IPL franchises.

But for starters, CSK once more won at home against the RCB, this time by six wickets. This is their eighth straight win in Chennai against the opposition, and have lost only lost one versus them. That win for RCB came way back in 2008. Here is your dose of Daily Review System for March 23.

Jittery Ruturaj Finds Going Tough

Chasing 174, the new captain Ruturaj had an ordinary night — both as a captain, and as the opening batsman of CSK. After his team reduced RCB to 78/5 at one time, he let the momentum shift, as the opposition scored 173. Despite having a more than able spinner in Rachin, he did not use his bowling. When it came to chasing down the total, he could contribute with 15 in 15 only.

Virat Kohli the Milestone Man

Kohli became the first Indian to score 12000 runs in T20s. Even though he could manage only 21 from 20 deliveries, it was still enough for him to cross the milestone, that no other player from the country has done. Meanwhile, it took 377 matches overall to amass those runs. Chris Gayle tops the list for players with most runs in the format – 14,562 runs.

No Pathirana, No Problem

One of CSK’s most successful bowlers in IPL 2023, Pathirana is yet to join team this season, as he hasn’t gotten the NOC from Sri Lanka Cricket. But the ploy to field Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman paid dividends for the side as he returned with figures of 4/29 in his four overs. One wonders if Pathirana would make the playing XI even when he’s with team.

Patidar Struggling with Form or Confidence?

Talented batsman Rajat Patidar once again had a poor outing with the bat. Though it was the first game of the season, his struggles from the IND vs ENG Test series continued. He was out for a naught. In the three Tests he played, he managed a total of 63 runs, at an average of 10. Without any doubt, Patidar is important for RCB’s fortunes this year.

Second Debut for Seasoned Rishabh Pant

It is known to all that Delhi Capitals’ skipper Pant will be making a comeback to cricket after 14 month, post his life-threatening accident. But the fans don’t really know, how the southpaw feels about playing again. “Jittery, nervous, excited…all of it, but at the same time, just happy, being able to come back to professional cricket. I’m just looking forward to playing my first game tomorrow,” he said.

Bumrah with Team Mumbai

With their first match on 24th March, Mumbai Indians’ bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah finally joined the team on Friday, just a few hours prior to the start of their match against Gujarat Titans. Rest assured, Bumrah will be in top form, despite missing crucial practice sessions with the team.

Super Over: 6 News Flash of March 22

Masterchef Davey Warner

Delhi Capitals’ opener Warner is multi-talented for sure. The veteran is an ambidextrous player, can bat both left and right-handed, and seems to be a decent cook. On Friday, he was seen throwing a meal together.

From RCB Unbox to RCB Refund

The glitzy event where the RCB players interacted with the fans, was live streamed on the RCB app, after the users were charged a nominal fee of INR 99. But there were a few technical issues with the broadcast. So now the team has decided to refund the money.

Shah Rukh Khan at the Edens?

KRK owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is all set to be present in Kolkata, for his team’s first match in IPL 2024 versus SRH on March 23.

When Yashasvi Thought His Career Was Over

In an exclusive interaction with Insidesport.in, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s coach Jwala Singh revealed, that after the 2021 IPL season, the batsman was distraught after mediocre season.

Rajasthan Royals’ Steal Deal

After spinner Adam Zampa pulled out of IPL 2024, Mumbai all-rounder Tanush Kotian was roped in by the team. He was bought at a base price of INR 20 lakh.

Jaffer Makes Sense

Ex-India opener Wasim Jaffer isn’t in support of Gaikwad being named the CSK captain. He feels, with Dhoni still around, it would make the youngsters’ job even more difficult.
