DRS, July 5: No Rohit-Kohli until October, Jadeja violates BCCI rule & England cheating at Edgbaston?

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

Mohammed Siraj didn’t make Jasprit Bumrah’s absence felt at Edgbaston. Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to create Test records. Ravindra Jadeja has violated a BCCI rule. Shubman Gill’s father isn’t happy with his double hundred. England might be taking advantage of the ICC’s rules against India. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma may not play international cricket anytime soon.

DRS 1

No cricket for Rohit-Kohli for 6 months

India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh might be postponed indefinitely. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has halted its media rights tender for now. This means that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of whom play ODIs, may not be in action until October, as the Asia Cup remains in doubt as well. Reminder, they haven’t played international cricket since March.

DRS 2

Siraj makes up for Bumrah’s absence

Mohammed Siraj has stepped up when it matters the most. On a flat Edgbaston pitch where 1058 runs have been scored for the loss of 21 wickets, Siraj has taken 6 wickets for just 70 runs. Everyone was worried about how India would do in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence. Well, Siraj has made sure that no one needs to worry if he’s the leader of the pack.

DRS 3

Gill’s father unhappy with double hundred

An Indian father is an Indian father, whether it be yours, mine, or Shubman Gill’s. His son just made the highest Test score by an Indian batter in England, 269, but he feels he should have scored a triple hundred. Maybe if the pitches remain flat, Gill might get there in the next three Test matches.

Jaiswal joins Sehwag-Dravid

Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the joint-fastest Indian batter to score 2000 runs in Test cricket. With a 28-run knock in the second innings of the India vs England 2nd Test, Jaiswal got to the milestone. The record now belongs to him, Virender Sehwag, and his Rajasthan Royals head coach, Rahul Dravid.

DRS 5

England’s short boundary tactic

Knowing the Indian spinners can trouble them, England has tried to take advantage of the ICC’s rules. The boundaries at Edgbaston have been brought in and no side is longer than 64.9 meters from the stumps. Small dimensions mean England, who like to attack, can possibly hit more boundaries and continue to put pressure on Indian bowlers.

DRS 6

Jadeja to be fined by BCCI?

On Day 2 of the Edgbaston Test, Ravindra Jadeja violated a BCCI rule. As per the SOPs, all players are to travel in the team bus. Jadeja wanted to work on his batting in the nets a bit before continuing to bat with Shubman Gill and made his way to the stadium before the scheduled time of leaving. It’s most likely that BCCI won’t fine him for it.
