DRS, April 5: Shashank Singh showdown, Shubman Gill’s blitzkrieg light up Ahmedabad

Welcome to our special segment DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

Well, can one now say ‘will the real Shashank Singh please stand up?’ Well no, not after the batter helped PBKS snatch a victory from the jaws of Gujarat Titans, at their home ground. Singh did the unthinkable, taking his side across the line to provide the first away win of IPL 2024 for Punjab Kings.

A monumental effort from Shubman Gill wasn’t enough for GT. Their bowling certainly didn’t help either, letting Dhawan and co steal the show. On that note, let’s take a look at the top stories from April 4.

Shashank Singh shines!

Who would have ever thought Shashank Singh could miraculously pull off a run-chase in favour of the Kings? Call it a steal deal, the batter who earlier showed glimpses of his capabilities, wreaked havoc on PBKS with a furious 61-run knock off just 29 deliveries. The 32-year-old had a lot of people to thank after his epic knock that earned PBKS their well deserved 2 points and their first win on the road.

Shubman showdown in Ahmedabad!

When it comes to Gujarat Titans, how can one ever count out a swashbuckling Shubman Gill? The GT skipper lasted till the very end of the side’s innings, staying unbeaten on 89 and narrowly missing out on what would have been a well-deserved century. Apart from guiding his team to victory, the opener has also made his case for his inclusion in the playing XI for India at the T20 World Cup 2024 and not just a part of the squad.

A forgotten star rises!

Rahul Tewatia has risen from the ashes to turn the clock back, doing what he does the best against PBKS. The batsman, touted as GT’s finisher, made an instant impact in his short stint at the crease. A quickfire 23-run knock off just 8 deliveries was studded with three boundaries and one six, with an unbeliveable strike rate of 287.50.

Livingstone headache for PBKS

Punjab Kings are missing star batter Liam Livingstone with an injury. A Punjab Kings source informed InsideSport, “Livingstone is with the squad and has not returned home. The injury is not too serious but couldn’t make it for today.”

Why so costly, Harshal?

Harshal Patel is back in the headlines, this time for the wrong reason. The ‘running off-spinner’ conceded 44 runs in his four-over spell, boasting of a shameful economy rate of 11.00. With just one wicket to his name, Harshal was smashed all around the park with GT batters enjoying tormenting the pacer.

Will Jitesh make it to World Cup?

Punjab Kings batter Jitesh Sharma’s performance in IPL 2024 has been below-average so far. The PBKS vice-captain has only managed to score 27 runs in three games, casting aspersions on whether he should be a contender for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Other wicketkeeper-batters who are in the fray have outperformed him so far in the tournament.
