The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have dealt a blow. While the MS Dhoni return day isn’t known as of now, pacer Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out for the remainder of the IPL 2026. Off the field, they have lodged a complaint against arch-rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) over a ‘DJ’ dispute. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians (MI) have endured another poor loss, with Punjab Kings (PBKS) beating them.

MS Dhoni update
MS Dhoni’s status for IPL 2026 remains unclear amid conflicting reports. The 44-year-old is recovering from a groin injury sustained in pre-season and has missed CSK’s first five matches. While videos showed him travelling to Hyderabad for the April 18 SRH clash, Cricbuzz claims he won’t play. He’s reportedly targeting a return against Mumbai Indians on April 23, having rehabbed at Chepauk without facing frontline bowlers. Dhoni hasn’t travelled for away games and skipped home matches too. If fit, his inclusion could force out a batter like Sarfaraz Khan. Read more here.

Pat Cummins’ return date revealed for SRH
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have received a timely boost with Pat Cummins cleared to play IPL 2026 after Sydney scans showed his back issue has fully healed. The Australian captain, who missed the T20 World Cup, returns to India on April 17 with no bowling restrictions. However, despite medical clearance, Cummins told fans on Instagram he’s “aiming for the 25th vs RR,” likely ruling him out of the April 18 CSK game. SRH next face CSK on April 18 and DC on April 21 at home. Read more here.

CSK lodge complaint vs RCB
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have lodged a formal complaint with the BCCI over the DJ’s conduct during their April 5 loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Chinnaswamy. CSK objected to the song “Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney” being played before their innings, calling it a stereotype that crossed the line. They also flagged personal remarks made over the PA after CSK dismissals. Managing director Kasi Viswanathan said DJs should energize crowds, not insult opponents. A senior IPL official confirmed receipt of the complaint. Read more here.

RR manager not fined by BCCI
Rajasthan Royals (RR) manager Romi Bhinder is likely to escape with a fine or warning after breaching IPL’s PMOA protocol by using a mobile phone in the dugout during RR’s April 10 clash with RCB. While phones are allowed in the dressing room, they’re banned in the dugout for usage. Bhinder was spotted on his device as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi looked on. He’s apologized in response to the BCCI’s show-cause notice, citing serious past health issues that require him to keep a phone nearby. The ACSU is investigating but sources suggest no malicious intent, with health concerns likely to earn leniency. Read more here.

Khaleel Ahmed out of IPL 2026
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been hit hard by injuries, with Khaleel Ahmed now ruled out of IPL 2026. The left-arm pacer suffered a Grade 2 quadricep tear against KKR and faces 10-12 weeks on the sidelines. He managed just two wickets in five games at 8.67 economy. With Nathan Ellis already injured and replacement Spencer Johnson unavailable due to a back issue, CSK’s pace attack looks thin. MS Dhoni also remains doubtful with a calf strain. Matt Henry is likely to replace Khaleel. Read more here.

New Mumbai Indians player
Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed 21-year-old Punjab all-rounder Krish Bhagat as a mid-season replacement for injured Atharva Ankolekar. Ankolekar, a 2019 U-19 Asia Cup final Player of the Match, was ruled out of IPL 2026 after meniscus surgery from a Ranji Trophy injury. Bhagat has limited experience with seven first-class and nine List A games but showed promise in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with 51 runs and 3/33. Bhagat is a low-risk punt to add seam-bowling depth.
