There has been a chatter on social media, if Ben Stokes would be part of IPL 2027; but then he won't be eligible to play until 2028 season.

England all-rounder Ben Stokes announced his retirement from international cricket just a couple of days back, and that has already given rise to the speculation, if the 35-year-old will be part of IPL 2027 or not. But just to make it clear, it won’t be possible immediately for the next season.

No Ben Stokes for IPL 2027

Even though Ben Stokes will continue to play leagues around the world, he would not participate in the IPL 2027 due to the strict BCCI guidelines in place. As per the IPL Governing Council, “Any Overseas Player will have to register for the Big Auction. In case the overseas player doesn’t register, then he will be ineligible to register in the following year’s player auction.”

Stokes had not registered himself for the IPL 2025 auction, which makes him ineligible to appear in IPL 2027 auction. He can only be eligible again in the 2028 auction, if he actually does register his name, for the same. It also remains to be seen, if the IPL GC or the BCCI would be willing to make any changes to the existing rules, and exempt Stokes.

Stokes has been around in the IPL for a long time, and first played in 2017 for RPS. And his last match happened to be in IPL 2023. IN all he has 45 matches to his name, where he has 28 wickets to his name and 935 runs to go with it; he has two tons in the competition as well, having represented franchises like Pune, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings.

Stokes retires as one of the best all-rounders

Stokes enjoyed a brilliant 13-year career, where he really shone in the Test format. IN 122 matches, he scored 7,273 runs at an average of 34.46, getting 14 tons and 37 fifties. Apart from that, he was an excellent pacer and picked up 250 wickets. That made him only the second all-rounder in the history of the sport, to get 7K Test runs and 250+ wickets.

He is one of the most successful England Test skipper as well. He led his side to 23 wins in 42 matches, 17 were lost, and only two were drawn. Ever since he took over the reigns in 2022, he along with Brendom McCullum, ushered the Bazball era for Team England.
