While chasing 201 against Kolkata Knight Riders in game 35 of the IPL 2023, Dinesh Karthik’s unawareness while running between the wickets led to an unnecessary run-out.
In the 15th over of the innings, Dinesh Karthik played a cut short on Suyash Sharma’s leg-break delivery. While it looked a comfortable two at the start, DK’s hesitancy to not charge back for a second confused Prabhudessai who paused in the middle. However, Karthik did not stop and continued his run towards the striker’s end, stranding Prabhudessai who had no chance against Anukul’s flat throw.
Notably, Dinesh Karthik was also the culprit in Prabhudessai’s dismissal in the last game where the latter became the victim of yet another poor run call from the veteran wicketkeeper.

DK himself couldn’t contribute much after the run-out and was dismissed on 22 in the 18th over, ending RCB’s hope of registering an unlikely win. With the run-out, the Tamil Nadu-born batter bagged an unwanted record of becoming the batter with most involvements in run-outs.
The 37-year-old has been involved in 40 run-outs, out of which 27 times have resulted in his partner’s dismissal while 13 times he has got out.
Netizens were furious at Karthik for ruining RCB’s chances of chasing the target by the horrible mix-up and demanded his exclusion from Bangalore’s coming games.

Talking about the game, Kolkata Knight Riders registered a convincing 21-run victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Jason Roy and Nitish Rana led the charge for KKR with some blistering knocks, while Varun Chakaravarthy picked up three crucial wickets to help seal the victory.
For RCB, stand-in skipper Virat Kohli scored 54 from 37 balls but his innings went in vain as none of the other RCB batters could not make a mark. The hosts could only manage 179 for 8 in 20 overs.
