Did David Warner hint that he won’t open for Australia in T20 World Cup 2024?

Warner, who is struggling for form and fitness recently, hinted that the Aussies are not bothered about keeping their spots in the team.

With the T20 World Cup 2024 just a few days away, Australia will be looking to make repeat their ODI World Cup feat where they emerged as winners. Aussie opener David Warner, who will retire from International cricket after the T20 World Cup 2024, spoke about the team’s fearless nature ahead of the tournament. Warner, who is struggling for form and fitness recently, said that the Aussies are not bothered about keeping their spots in the team. Australia have no dearth of talent and it is expected that there will be quite a few players to replace him once he retires. His comments warrant the question whether Warner hinted at his desire to let go of his opening spot in the T20 World Cup.

Fearless cricket key to our success: Warner

We’ve always played fearless and I think that’s why we’ve been so successful over the last few years,” David Warner told Sydney Morning Herald.

We don’t care about our spot in a team, we just care about doing the best that we can, and making sure that whatever we’re doing, we’re trying to be that match winner,” Warner added.

Warner struggling ahead of T20 WC

Warner hasn’t had an ideal preparation coming into the T20 World Cup 2024. He has been suffering for form and fitness before the tournament. In the recently-concluded IPL 2024, Warner could only play 8 matches for the Delhi Capitals. He was injured for the majority of the matches and also lost his place to young Aussie opener Jake Fraser-McGurk in the DC line up.

In the 8 matches Warner played, he only scored 168 runs at a strike rate of below 135. He scored a half-century in one of the warm-up matches, but that can not be enough to bring his confidence back.
