Homeless Delhi Capitals to play first two home games in Vizag, ASJ Stadium unavailable

With WPL 2024 ending on March 17, Arun Jaitley Stadium won't be ready for Delhi Capitals' IPL 2024 matches by March 24.

Delhi Capitals will be without their home for the first four matches of IPL 2024. With the Arun Jaitley Stadium hosting WPL 2024 Phase II, Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has confirmed that the venue won’t be ready for at least 10 days. Hence, Delhi will play their first two home matches in Vizag on March 31 and April 3. Their first three fixtures will be away. BCCI will release partial IPL 2024 Schedule on Feb 22.

As per an Indian Express report, DDCA has written to the BCCI about the unavailability of the venue for the opening two games of IPL 2024.

IPL 2024 vs WPL 2024

Delhi will host 11 matches of the Women’s Premier League in just 13 days. Arun Jaitley Stadium will host WPL 2024 from March 5 to March 17, allowing only a week for IPL 2024.

DDCA expects the first match of Delhi Capitals on March 24. Hence, it’s too short a window for the venue to be ready.

“The reason is WPL. We will be hosting a total of 11 matches in two weeks. With IPL starting from March 22 the first IPL match in Delhi was supposed to take place on March 24, we don’t have enough time to prepare pitches. The BCCI has agreed to shift the first two matches and has also given us some breathing space,” the official added.
