England cricketers are alarmed. A week after Ben Stokes was seen using an inhaler during practice session, a British newspaper has explained the reason. During early winters and leading up to Diwali, India struggle with higher rate of air pollution. To tackle that, England Cricket Team has resorted to inhalers to keep away any cardiovascular problem during Cricket World Cup.
It raised speculation when Ben Stokes was photographed using inhaler during a practice session in Bengaluru.
On Thursday, in Delhi air quality index breached 500 AQI mark, to depict the severity. Pollution has also caused a concern among India Cricket Team. India captain Rohit Sharma also complained against the pollution as smog wrapped Mumbai around ahead of IND vs SL Cricket World Cup game.
“I mean, in an ideal world, you don’t want a situation like this, but I’m pretty sure the concerned people are taking the necessary steps. It’s not ideal, everyone knows that. But obviously, looking at our future generations – your kids, my kids – obviously, it’s quite important that they get to live without any fear,” Rohit Sharma said.
“So, yeah, every time I get to speak outside of cricket, if we are not discussing cricket, I always talk about this. You know we have to look after our future generations,” said Rohit on Wednesday.
England Cricket Team are in Ahmedabad ahead of their match against Australia. And batter Joe Root complained that the air was hard to breathe in Mumbai.
“It just felt like you couldn’t get your breath. It was unique. Who knows whether it was air quality? I am not qualified to know. It felt like quite a hazy day, wasn’t it? And you could definitely see that from one side of the ground looking back towards the sun, it was a lot harder visually than it was on the other side of the ground. Whether it was air quality or what, it was definitely an experience I’ve not had before,” Joe Root said.
Last year when Bangladesh came for a series, they had to wear masks while practising due to poor air quality in Delhi. In 2017, some Sri Lankan players worse masks while fielding.
