The good news is that despite an injury scare, Dhoni is available and is managing his injury well. Dhoni’s knee has been troubling him since before IPL 2023. However, as part of the contingency plan, Decon Conway has been seen with big gloves during practice. If the situation worsens for Dhoni, Conway will be the keeper while Dhoni could come in as an Impact sub.

But who will be the captain is the real question. Ravindra Jadeja was designated vice-captain last season after Dhoni reclaimed captaincy. But this season, CSK have not nominated any. Whoever comes in as the stand-in skipper for CSK is set to be the successor of Dhoni.

MS Dhoni fine!

“MS is completely fine. He is managing his injury well. He is available. He always keeps the team first. If he knows he can’t contribute because of injury, he would have sat out himself. There is no concern with him,” the CSK official said.

No timeline on Deepak Chahar: However, what is worrying for CSK is Deepak Chahar’s injury. The mainstay of CSK’s pace attack is once again down with a hamstring injury. While he has already missed the last two games, CSK are taking no risks with his return.

Chahar is one of the players in BCCI and NCA’s injury management plan. While he was supposed to be out for two weeks, there will be no rushed return for CSK’s Rs 14 Cr paceman.
