IPL 2023: Mumbai Indian batter SuryaKumar Yadav continued his red-hot form against Royal Challengers Bangalore and played a match-winning inning of 83 runs off just 35 balls. Former India legend Sunil Gavaskar praised Suryakumar Yadav’s batting and said it gave him the feeling of “gully cricket” where the batters “toy” with the bowlers. India’s Mr 360 smashed his fourth half-century of the season. Meanwhile, young Nehal Wadhera also smashed his second fifty of the season. Speaking on Star Sports’ Cricket Live, Gavaskar showered praise on SKY, who once again showcased his 360-degree hitting and quickly took the game away from RCB.

Sunil Gavaskar Heaps Praise on SuryaKumar Yadav

“SKY was toying with the bowlers. He gives you a feeling of gully cricket when he’s batting like that. He’s just gotten better with practice and hard work. His bottom hand is so powerful that he uses it to perfection. Against RCB, he started with hitting towards long-on and long-off and later agricultured shots all around the park,” said Gavaskar.

SuryaKumar Yadav carried his sublime form and blasted a quick-fire 83, while young Nehal Wadhera (52 not out) also smashed his second fifty of the season. The duo formed a 140-run partnership, putting Mumbai in a commanding position in the run-chase.

SKY hit six sixes in his fourth half-century in his last six IPL innings. He also found the gaps adeptly, drilling seven boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking over. His inning was so entertaining that even Virat Kohli, who generally displays feistiness on the cricket field, walked up to him and hugged him as he was making his way into the dressing room.

Suryakumar said he had been practicing for such situations. He mentioned adjusting his approach as Bangalore took the pace off the ball to make six-hitting difficult. They knew they had to bowl slow, make him hit toward the bigger boundary, and deny him pace.

Mumbai Indians were chasing a daunting target of 200 runs. But thanks to SuryaKumar Yadav’s blazing innings, MI won the match with 21 balls to spare. This win propelled Mumbai Indians to as high as the third spot in the points table.
