Cause of concern: MSK Prasad on Hardik Pandya’s fitness ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

Pandya suffered an ankle injury in October 2023 and is likely to remain out of action until IPL 2024.

Hardik Pandya is one of the most valued players in cricket. A cricketer who can bat and bowl, is exceptional in the field, and has been a successful captain—there is nothing a team needs that Pandya doesn’t possess. While all this sounds great, there is a caveat: his fitness.

The star India all-rounder has suffered multiple injuries in his career. Just a few months ago, Hardik Pandya suffered an ankle injury during the World Cup 2023, which could potentially rule him out for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Former India cricket team chief selector MSK Prasad has raised the same question.

When asked about how fitness will play a part in selecting a team for the T20 World Cup 2024 due to the two-month long IPL 2024, aging and injury-prone players, MSK Prasad said that some cricketers have to be looked after.

“Players like Virat, Rohit, Shami, Bumrah, Siraj, Jadeja, and Hardik, yes, definitely fitness is a cause of concern,” he said.
