Boost in store for IPL teams? Salary cap likely to be discussed in April 16 meeting

Salary cap could be one of the main points of discussion in the meeting of IPL owners called by the BCCI on April 16. As per Cricbuzz, a variety of topics including player retentions, salary cap and other auction procedures will be discussed during the meeting.

However, the BCCI has so far not announced the official agenda of the meeting. The meeting will happen ahead of the mega auction scheduled to be held before IPL 2025.

IPL teams set for salary cap rise?

A Cricbuzz reports hints that the salary cap as one of the points of discussion in the meeting. The salary cap was set at Rs 100 cr during the mini auction in December 2023. However, it is expected to rise after a boost in the team’s central revenue share after BCCI’s whooping Rs 48,390 crore broadcasting deal which was signed a couple of years ago.

Formal intimation received

All ten IPL franchise owners have received invitations, and it is anticipated that they will be joined by their CEOs and operational staff. The meeting itself, though, is exclusive to owners.

The meeting is anticipated to be attended by BCCI officials, including President Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah, and IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal.
