England star cricketer and Test captain Ben Stokes shocked the whole world by announcing his retirement from the ODI format of the game on 18th July 2022. Ben Stokes will now put his attention to T20 and Test cricket.

“We have to keep pushing boundaries of what we do in the cricket field. Take yourselves to the extreme, that’s when we’re able to go out and do stuff like no one else can as a team. In the field, we have some unbelievable athletes, and keep pushing yourselves to the absolute extremes to realize what we are capable of,” said Stokes.
“Jos, never doubt yourself. Never doubt any decisions you make, as a leader and captain. You’re an incredible human being and player. Whatever you do, you know for a fact that you’ll have all ten blokes out there in the field to follow you. If you believe in everything that you do, you are going to have everyone behind you,” Stokes said to Jos Buttler.

“It’s sad that I’ll not be able to do that in this format. I played a lot of people with you. I wish you all the best in your journey as captain. I think you are going to be incredible. The most important thing is that you have the support of everyone in here. Whatever you say will come good. That’s a very very rare trade a person can try,” Stokes concluded.

- Ben Stokes made his ODI debut against Ireland in 2011.
- In his 11-year ODI career, Stokes has played 104 matches, scoring 2919 runs.
- He has also bagged 74 wickets.
- His ODI career also has three centuries and 21 fifties at an average of 39.44.
- He captained England ODI side during last summer’s 3-0 series victory against Pakistan and has been an inspirational leader.
- Ben Stokes was also named in the ICC 2019 World Cup Team of the Tournament.
- In the 2019 WC final, he smashed 98-ball 84 to force a super over against New Zealand.
- England went on to win their maiden 50-over World Cup.

“There’s a lot of emotions running from me as a friend. Some of the things that you have achieved in the field is extraordinary.
