BCCI New Selection Committee: BCCI will begin interviews of the potential candidates for selectors by this week. For the time being, the outgoing selection committee is making the calls. All the four selectors will be on Ranii Trophy duty before the new panel takes charge. The new selection committee’s first job will be to pick the team for the Sri Lanka series in January.
“We hope to complete the process by this week. There are a number of potential candidates and it takes time to review them and interview them. The CAC will take the right call when the process is done. We should have the new selection panel before the apex council meeting. They will take charge in the new year,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

As per a Cricbuzz report, the current selectors will watch Ranji Trophy matches in various locations. Chairman Chetan Sharma will watch the Punjab vs Maharashtra match in Mohali. Sunil Joshi will be in Pune for Maharashtra vs Delhi match.
Debasish Mohanty will watch the Bengal vs Uttar Pradesh match in Kolkata. Harvinder Singh will be in Hyderabad. Tamil Nadu will take on hosts Hyderabad in that game.

Venkatesh Prasad New Chairman? Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad is likely to take over as the NEW CHAIRMAN of the BCCI Selection Committee. According to sources in the BCCI, Prasad is the most accomplished cricketer to apply for the post of selectors. With more experience than others, he is likely to become the New Chairman soon. The sources further informed InsideSport that, BCCI is looking for a T20 Specialist as one of the selectors in the NEW COMMITTEE.
The 53-year-old has played 33 Tests & 161 ODIs for India. He has 290 International wickets in his bag and is the most experienced cricketer to apply for new selector post.
“The new selection committee will be finalized and announced before the end of this month. Venkatesh Prasad is one of the most experienced cricketers who has applied for the role. No formal discussions have happened but he is likely to get vote of confidence from all as new chairman,” an informed source told InsideSport.
BCCI looking for T20 Specialist as Selector: The BCCI is also of the view that a selector with experience of playing T20 Cricket should must be part of the selection committee.
The search for such a selector hasn’t materialised so far. The brief to the new Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik is clear ‘to pick selectors with a vision for rebuilding the team’.
How the new selection committee can look like?
- Venkatesh Prasad is likely to become the selector from South Zone
- From the West Zone, Salil Ankola’s name has cropped up quite a few times. The former India pacer will be a favourite if he gets the backing of treasurer Ashish Shelar, the strongman of Mumbai cricket.
- From East Zone SS Das of Odisha could come in from East Zone.
- From North Maninder Singh, Atul Wasan & Nikhil Chopra are in contention
- Nayan Mongia is another name doing the rounds as a potential pick from Central Zone.
