“The Melbourne Stars can confirm that Glenn Maxwell has returned a positive rapid antigen test,” the franchise wrote on Twitter.

  • Glenn Maxwell returned a positive rapid antigen test after the game against the Melbourne Renegades and has since undertaken a PCR test and is currently isolating.
  • As per COVID protocols, Maxwell is likely to stay in isolation for the next seven days.
  • He will be tested again after 6 days and needs a test negative COVID report to return to play.
  • More than a dozen of players from BBL have tested positive for COVID in the last 7 days amid the ongoing COVID situation in Australia.
  • Melbourne Stars will next face Adelaide Strikers on January 7. They are placed second-last in the latest BBL 2022 Points Table.
  • Maxwell has been retained for a hefty Rs 11 crore for IPL 2022. He is likely to lead the franchise after Virat Kohli’s decision to step down from captaincy. AB De Villiers, too, won’t be available for RCB after retirement from all forms of cricket.

Their match against Perth Scorchers on December 30 had been already postponed due to COVID-19.

The development comes a day after the Big Bash League confirmed a revised schedule for three matches to be played at Metricon Stadium, Gold Coast over the next three nights from January 4-6.

The revised schedule for matches: BBL 2022

  • January 4 —: Perth Scorchers v Sydney Sixers (previously scheduled for January 6),
  • January 5 —: Brisbane Heat v Sydney Sixers (previously scheduled for January 4), and
  • January 6 —: Perth Scorchers v Sydney Thunder (previously scheduled for January 5).
