BAN vs SL Highlights: Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka scored fifties as Sri Lanka registered a comfortable 5-wicket win over Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2023 clash. Sadeera and Asalanka came to the crease when Sri Lanka were in a tricky situation in chase of 165 but they stitched a crucial partnership to put the hosts in cruising position.
Earlier, Bangladesh got bundled out for a mere 164 in SL vs BAN match. Nazmul Hossain Shanto was the lone fighter for the visitors as he scored a gritty 89. Young pacer Matheesha Pathirana was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka with 4 wickets. Maheesh Theekshana oicked 2 while Dhananjaya de Silva, Dunith Wellalage and Dasun Shanaka picked one each. Earlier, BAN captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first.
Sri Lanka gained an early advantage by taking three wickets within the first 10 overs, including the key wicket of Bangladesh’s captain Shakib Al Hasan. Despite a partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tawhid Hridoy, Bangladesh lost momentum after the 40th over and got bowled out for 164.
In response, Sri Lanka kept their cool despite losing 3 quick wickets with half-centuries from Sadeera Samarawickrama (54 off 77) and Charith Asalanka (62 not out off 92). With this win, Sri Lanka has move to top of Group B.
For Bangladesh, skipper Shakib Al Hasan was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 wickets while giving away just 29 in his 10 overs. Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan were the other wicket takers for Tigers, picking 1 wicket each.
