Ash Barty won the Australian Open 2022 in an entertaining final where she bettered her American opponent Danielle Collins in straight sets of 6-3,7-6 to win the title in the Women’s division. Her victory was indeed special for Australia as she became the first Australian to win the title after a span of 44 years.

Cricket Australia congratulated the 25-year-old with a special message showcasing her journey from the Queensland Premier Cricket, to the WBBL and now to become a 3-time Grand slam winner.

At an early age in 2015, Barty decided to take a break from Tennis and started to practice cricket. She was enlisted in the Queensland Fire Squad. Later for the Women’s Big Bash League (WWBL), she was signed by the iconic Brisbane Heats. The Heats decided to sign her after she played just a couple of games with Western Suburbs District Cricket Club.

Barty has played 9 matches in WBBL where she scored 68 runs in 7 innings. Even today, before any game, the World No. 1 in tennis does her trademark warm-up where she poses and practices with the Raquette like a cricket bat.
In 2019 after her maiden slam by winning the iconic Roland Garros, Ash Barty spoke praises about the WBBL and how her special stint in cricket helped her to save and rejuvenate her tennis career.
“It’s been great in cricket to come into a team environment because it’s the first time I’ve ever experienced it and I’m loving every moment,” Barty said in 2019.
