‘Team in Good Space’: Rohit Sharma on India’s chance of winning WC

‘All I can hope is team is in good space’ Rohit Sharma on India’s chance of winning WC
Rohit Sharma is determined to win WC in probably his last ODI World Cup. Team India skipper is yet to win WC trophy

It’s been more than a decade since India laced their hands in the ICC trophy. Rohit Sharma was part of the team when India won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s leadership. Since 2013, India have been part of nine ICC events across the three formats, but they have failed to win the ICC trophy. Some of the experts have also started to call India the new chokers. Now, with just one day to for ODI World Cup 2023, expectations are again high from Rohit Sharma & Co to break the trophy drought.

Also, India playing a home World Cup, pressure is immense on Rohit & the team. Will it be this year when India finally pocket the World Cup for the third time? When Rohit Sharma was quizzed whether India have it in them to go all the distance, the skipper gave a very diplomatic answer.

“I don’t have an answer for it. How can I say that now? All I can hope is that the team is in a good space. Everybody is fit and fine. That’s all I can hope for. I cannot say beyond this. Good space is such an important factor and it’s a very key thing now,” Rohit said to Indian Express.

India are billed as one of the favorites to win the WC, alongside England, Australia, New Zealand, & Pakistan. The Men in Blue also have momentum with them as they are coming off an Asia Cup win and ODI series win against five-time champions Australia. Now, it is about continuing that form and handling clutch moments.

Rohit Sharma: Rohit opens about his captaincy journey, says he is a self-made captain

In his short captaincy career so far, Rohit has won two Asia Cups, taken India into the semis of the T20 World Cup in 2022, and the finals of WTC this year. With the India skipper winning five IPL titles, expectations are high from fans that Rohit will also win the WC. When he was quizzed about his captaincy journey, the 36-year-old said, he is self-made captain and that no one has been instrumental in shaping his career.

“I myself realised what I had to do. Honestly, not many individuals have played a part in my journey,” Rohit says, with an inverted gaze. “Whatever I have created today, it’s because of myself, of course, there has been support from my family and friends, everybody.

I realised I had to make all this talent etc count. Else, it’s a meaningless word. It’s not like someone has called me and said, ‘Boss, do this!’ And why will anyone do it? I didn’t expect anything from anyone.” Rohit added.
