3 overseas players MI might target in IPL 2025 mega auction

With not many days left for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, chances are that overseas players will grab the attention. See which overseas players MI might target in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

The days could be counted on fingers now as the IPL 2025 Mega Auction buzz is everywhere and coming very soon. The IPL 2025 Mega Auction will take place on November 24 and 25, and this time, Jeddah is set to host the auction. Speaking of one of the most successful IPL teams, Mumbai Indians will look to forget what happened in the last IPL and try to revamp a few things. With a limited purse and a core of retained players like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya, MI now needs to think extremely hard about whom to target, especially when it comes to overseas players, who are usually in high demand. MI has seen in the past how overseas players have done wonders for them, from Kieron Pollard to Dwayne Bravo, and this time, they are expected to target some big overseas names as well. See three big, top-quality overseas players that MI may target in the IPL 2025 auction.

Jos Buttler

After checking the MI retention list, one shock for many MI fans was witnessing no Ishan Kishan in the MI mix this time, which means there is a fully vacant space for the wicketkeeper-batter position that MI will look to sort out soon. Now, in the IPL 2025 mega auction, big wicketkeeper-batters are going to be under the hammer, from KL Rahul to Rishabh Pant to Jos Buttler. Although, if we go by the reports, one sound growing louder is that MI may show high interest in England’s white-ball skipper Jos Buttler, who got released by Rajasthan Royals, and chances are that we may see him in Mumbai colours.

Phil Salt

One more name coming from England that Mumbai Indians may target is Phil Salt. The same scenario applies here as well, with Ishan Kishan’s position widely open. Salt, who joined the KKR camp as a replacement player for Jason Roy after being unsold in the IPL 2024 auction, showcased his high-class aggressive batting. He stood out by playing a key role in KKR’s successful IPL 2024 campaign, especially in the group stage games, scoring 435 runs at an average of 39.54 and a strike rate of 182 in 12 innings, including four fifties.

Also, it is no hidden fact that MI has consistently looked for batters who can make quick runs and provide a power-packed start. They invest heavily in such players, and we may see a similar scenario here as well, with Salt possibly attracting significant attention from MI in this mega auction.

Marcus Stoinis

There is no question that every IPL team needs some quality all-rounders in the mix. MI has Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, but it is mostly Pandya who consistently delivers in both batting and bowling roles. Varma, currently enjoying red-hot form in T20Is, is primarily seen as a batting hero rather than a bowler.

In this space, MI may target Australian versatile all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, whose hard-hitting batting abilities and wicket-taking bowling could make him a favourite for MI. Playing for LSG, he consistently delivered results, and this time too, he could be under the spotlight for MI in the IPL 2025 auction. Apart from him, another Australian name that could snatch attention is Jake Fraser-McGurk. Last year, while playing for Delhi, everyone is well aware of his aggressive batting abilities, especially in the first 10 overs.
