In a recent revelation, Sanju Samson, the talented Indian wicketkeeper-batter, shed light on his special bond with the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma. Despite missing out on the ODI World Cup 2023 squad and being excluded from the ongoing T20I series against Australia, Samson expressed gratitude for the consistent support he has received from Rohit Sharma.

Samson’s last appearance for India was in the T20I series against Ireland in August, where he failed to make a significant impact. Subsequently, he served as a reserve wicketkeeper-batter for KL Rahul in the Asia Cup 2023 but did not get a chance to play. Despite these setbacks, Sanju Samson highlighted the unwavering support from Rohit Sharma.

During an interview on a popular YouTube channel ‘I am with Dhanya Varma’, Sanju Samson shared a heartwarming anecdote about Rohit Sharma being one of the first to approach and engage with him. In a friendly banter, Rohit Sharma humorously complained about Samson hitting too many sixes against the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, acknowledging the Kerala batter’s exceptional batting skills.

“Rohit Sharma was the first or second person who came to me and talked. He told me, ‘Hey Sanju, wassup. You performed well in the IPL but hit too many sixes against the Mumbai Indians. You bat really well.’ I had great support from him,” Samson revealed during the interview.

Sanju Samson remains positive

Despite facing challenges and being labelled as one of the unluckiest cricketers due to limited opportunities on the international stage, Sanju Samson maintains a positive outlook. As the captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he emphasized that his current achievements surpass his initial expectations.

“People call me the unlikeliest cricketer, but where I’ve reached currently, it’s much more than what I thought I could,” added the Kerala batter.

Samson’s cricketing journey continues to be promising, especially with the mentorship and encouragement he receives from senior players like Rohit Sharma. As fans eagerly anticipate more opportunities for Sanju Samson, his resilience and talent are set to shine on the international stage.
