Badminton Asia Championship 2022 – Badminton Asia Championship LIVE: Yamugachi DEFEATS Sindhu: Top seed Akane Yamaguchi proved too good for Indian ace shuttler PV Sindhu in the semifinals. She came from behind to win the next two sets and enter the finals. With the result, Sindhu & India’s hopes of a gold medal come to an end. However, she will finish the tournament with a medal. Akane Yamaguchi lost the opening set 21-13 in a one-sided battle. She then sealed the second set that went down the wire 21-19. Sindhu apparently lost the fuel in the decider as Yamaguchi ensured she booked a berth in the finals. Yamaguchi will next play the winner of Zhi Yi Wang vs An SeYoung in the finals.

Asian Badminton Semifinals LIVE: Sindhu defeated Bingjiao 21-9,13-21,21-19 in the quarterfinals.

Yamugachi on the other hand clinched a come-from-behind victory against Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwang to enter the Semifinals.

Sindhu is the only remaining Indian in the Asian Badminton Championships. The match is scheduled to begin at 11.30 AM

Sindhu vs Yamugachi Head-to-Head: This will be the 22nd meeting between both the players. Sindhu leads the Head-to-head contest 13-8. They last met during the World Tour finals in 2021 and Sindhu won the contest 21-15, 15-21, 21-19. Sindhu will however face a big test against the Japanese and the upcoming contest between the second and the fourth seed is expected to be a cracker of a contest.

  • Sindhu, who is the fourth seed in the tournament is looking to enter her third final this year.
  • She has already won two BWF titles this year by emerging as the champion in the Syed Modi International as well as the Swiss Open.
  • In the first round of the Asian Championship, she received a scare from Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu Po with Sindhu staring at a defeat after losing the first set and trailing 20-17 in the second. She however fought back brilliantly to win the match.
  • In the second round she was at her best against Singapore’s unseeded Jaslyn Hooi by winning the contest 21-16, 21-16. In the quarterfinals too, she ousted He Bingjiao in three sets.
  • Sindhu is aiming to become the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the continental tournament.

  • Meanwhile, World No.2 Akane Yamugachi, started the tournament by defeating India’s Aakarshi Kashyap in the first round.
  • However, she was pushed to the hilt in the second round by Komang Dewi and the Japanese had to fight back to win the contest in three sets.
  • Yamugachi is looking to defende her title in the continental tournament.
  • She has been on a good form this year, having won the All England Championship.

Sindhu vs Yamugachi Head-to-Head
