Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), a popular mobile game, might be facing a ban in India. As per a report by News18, Union government’s cybersecurity division has recommended discontinuing the app due to security concerns. Is BGMI getting Banned Again?
The game is currently available at Google Play Store and App Store and there is no certain BGMI Ban Date as of now. Here’s what triggered the possible talks about the ban of Battlegrounds Mobile India:
- Security Risk: Authorities are concerned about data collected by BGMI potentially being used in cyberattacks. The game’s servers are in the US, but data transfer to other locations is a worry.
- Criminal Activity: A Pakistani national reportedly met her partner in India through BGMI, raising national security concerns. An intelligence agency report also cited a case of a teenager killing his mother over a game dispute.

While BGMI was previously unbanned for a trial period, user safety and addiction remain issues. The Indian government is reviewing the app’s response to these concerns before making a final decision. As per Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, Skill Develpmnt,Electronics & Technology- The approval for the game was on a trail period of 3 months.
Another point to note: The government is also looking into other rebranded apps potentially communicating with servers in China. The official response from Krafton, the publisher of Battlegrounds Mobile India is yet to come.
