Wimbledon Semifinals: Matteo Berrettini enters Wimbledon final, defeats Hubert Hurkacz in four sets marathon- Italy’s Matteo Berrettini has defeated Huber Hurkacz in four sets battle to enter Wimbledon Final- His first Grand slam final. He began the contest on a high note and managed to win the first set 6-3. In the second set, he continued to dominate Hurkacz 6-0 in a one-sided contest that followed a tie-breaking set. But Hurkacz kept his nerve to win the third set but couldn’t win the final set which was evenly poised for a brief period of the match. The match lasted for two hours and 36 minutes.
“I have no words,” Berrettini said in his on-court interview as quoted by Reuters. “I need, I think, couple of hours to understand what happened. I just know that I played a great match. I’m really happy. I’m really glad to be here,” he added.
“I think I never dreamed about this because it was too much for a dream.”
World number nine Berrettini is the first Italian to reach a Wimbledon single’s final. He will face either Novak Djokovic or Denis Shapovalov in Sunday’s final.
Berrettini had earlier defeated the likes of Ivashka, Bedene, Van de Zandschulp, and G Pella during his first four rounds.
