The future of State of Decay 3 has become uncertain following reports that Microsoft is considering selling its developer, Undead Labs. While the company has not officially confirmed the claims, the reports have sparked concern among fans who have been eagerly waiting for the zombie survival sequel.
It has been revealed by Windows Central and Gamesbeat that Microsoft is trying to find ways to sell the Seattle-based developers in order to restructure its gaming department. Failure to find a buyer would mean that Undead Labs would be shut down.

It should be noted that such an initiative is seen as a step towards making the finances of Microsoft’s gaming department better.
According to reports by Bloomberg, the company is currently reconsidering its financial situation following years of substantial expenses incurred through developing games, purchasing hardware, and platform expansion. In this regard, Microsoft is said to consider selling studios, restructuring, and layoffs.
At this point, there are no official plans disclosed by Microsoft about the future of Undead Labs.

It seems that Undead Labs is not the only game studio under scrutiny.
Some industry sources indicate that Double Fine, Compulsion Games, and Ninja Theory are also on the review list. It is rumored that Microsoft would be selling these studios or let them work independently.
It appears that the purpose of such actions is cost reduction and further possibility of survival of the studios.

These announcements have caught many players off guard since the recently concluded Xbox Games Showcase had State of Decay 3 making headlines thanks to a newly released trailer.
There have been rumors that these media appearances could have been made as a way to create hype for the game and its developer. But there has not been any official announcement about the game being cancelled or halted.
