Apex Legends Season 29 "Overclocked" introduces Axle, a high-speed skirmisher from Salvo, and a game-changing Deathbox Respawn mechanic. Learn more here.

It seems that Apex Legends has decided to turn everything on its head. Set to launch on May 5, 2026, Apex Legends Season 29, codenamed “Overclocked,” will push the game into an overaggressive meta based on fast-paced play. With a completely new Skirmisher hero and a complete revamp of the respawn system, it looks like slow resets have become history.

Apex Legends Season 29 Introduces New Legend Axle

Hailing from the explosive planet of Salvo (the home world of Mad Maggie and Fuse), Axle enters the Apex Games ready to dominate the movement meta. Equipped with mechanical legs featuring implanted wheels, Axle is effectively a “frictionless” competitor built for speed. Here are his abilities:

  • Passive (Drift): It will improve the control that he will have while sliding, enabling him to keep momentum in turns and slope moves, which will possibly make him one of the best for rotations like Octane.
  • Tactical (Nitro Gate): Utility-based skill, but can be used to aggressively rotate if not placed properly, since enemies will also be able to use the gates to their advantage.
  • Ultimate (Kickstart): An explosive drone that seeks out targets to immediately apply pressure on campers and act as a defensive legend killer like Catalyst or Wattson.

Introduction of Deathbox Respawns

Among the most important changes that have been introduced with Apex Legends Season 29 is the Respawn Evolution system. Now you can revive your team member who just died right at the spot where he lay, without running to an easily destroyed Respawn Beacon.

The new system involves the presence of a slightly longer cast of 7 seconds and even a loud audio signal, which makes it almost impossible to perform hot dropping and revive teammates in such a way. Unlike normal dropships, you will spawn right on the deathbox and do so instantly.

Legend Buffs and Battle Pass

Respawn is also rebalancing some of the already existing legends. In this regard, Vantage will receive significant buffs to her skills, eliminating the negative effect from her Tactical leap if she lands hard. Additionally, she will be able to detect an entire squad using her improved ping ability.

Lastly, it has been rumored that the next Battle Pass may include a new Reactive skin for the RE-45 gun, alongside the emergence of another universal mythic melee weapon following the release of Buster Sword and Katar. Season 29 is all about speed.
