The dark fantasy action RPG game Elden Ring, which made its appearance in 2022, is one of the most iconic games today. The game was developed by the company FromSoftware with the collaboration of director Hidetaka Miyazaki and the author of the mythical universe George R.R. Martin, creator of Game of Thrones. Bandai Namco Entertainment announced its official collaboration with film studio A24 on the adaptation into an Elden Ring movie.
A24 Confirms Elden Ring Movie: Release Date and Cast Revealed
The production company stated that Alex Garland, the creator of Ex Machina and Civil War, would be working as both the screenwriter and director on the film. In order to fully capture the grandeur of the vast environments and massive enemies present in the game, the film will be shot in IMAX format exclusively. The shooting will commence in spring 2026, and A24 aims to release the movie theatrically worldwide on March 3, 2028.

A Massive Ensemble Cast
A24 has also revealed a cast list that consists of some of the biggest names in Hollywood right now. Although there aren’t any details concerning their exact characters yet, this ensemble includes:

- Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus, Civil War)
- Ben Whishaw (Skyfall, Paddington)
- Nick Offerman (The Last of Us)
- Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga)
- Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes)
- Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina)
- The cast is further rounded out by Peter Serafinowicz, Ruby Cruz, Havana Rose Liu, Emma Laird, Jefferson Hall, and John Hodgkinson.
Translating such a game with lots of lore and exploring story into cinema involves some structural difficulties. With the approaching filming date of 2026, it is expected that some plot directions for the Elden Ring movie characters are known.
