From reports that have emerged, MAUschine said that he felt like he was provoked through trash talk in the game. However, this explanation is not acceptable in the tournament organization and the entire esports community. Being psychologically pressured and taunted are aspects that are expected in high-intensity tournaments.

The physical attack, which was aired live for the fans, was intense to the point where it dislodged Spidergum’s glasses from his face. The organizers did not waste any time and issued a ban that will last for ten years to MAUschine.

Also, The matter has since been referred to the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC), which means that there is a high probability of the entire industry taking action against MAUschine and his fellow perpetrators.

A Call for Protecting the Esports Ecosystem

This particular incident acts as an eye-opener both for grassroots and tournament level game organizers. For esport games to be accepted among mainstream sports games, it is completely based on trust, safety, and professionalism.

This means that in future there will be stricter measures put in place regarding stage security, and offenders will face stringent penalties.

Even though it may seem too severe a penalty for many people, it completely conforms to the industry’s response to any acts of physical violence. Esports tournaments take place in highly structured, well-regulated settings. As soon as a gamer resorts to physical assault, he or she immediately turns from a participant exhibiting poor sportsmanship.
