Riot Games’ free-to-play tag-team fighter 2XKO is officially stepping out of Early Access, with a full launch scheduled for January 20, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game, which is already playable on PC in Early Access, brings Riot’s League of Legends universe into the fighting game arena with a 2v2 focus built for both casual and competitive players.

What is 2XKO Release Date

2XKO is a two-versus-two tag-team fighting game where players control iconic League of Legends champions in explosive, assist-heavy battles. The title combines fast, accessible controls with deep tag mechanics, allowing players to either control both characters solo or team up with a partner for coordinated duo play.

Set in the world of Runeterra, 2XKO features beautifully crafted stages, original music, and reimagined movesets for champions like Jinx, Yasuo, Ahri, and more, tailored specifically for a traditional fighter experience. The game is designed as a live service, with seasons, new champions, and ongoing balance updates already planned beyond launch.

Early Access history and 2XKO launch details

Riot opened 2XKO’s Early Access on PC on October 7, 2025, following a closed beta period aimed at stress-testing netcode, balance, and core systems. Progress from Early Access now carries forward, with no more account wipes since that October reset, ensuring that cosmetics and unlocks earned by early adopters remain permanent.

The January 20, 2026 release marks the game’s debut on consoles, finally bringing 2XKO to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S alongside the PC version in a unified, free-to-play launch. Riot is also touting best-in-class rollback netcode and robust anti-cheat tools to support smooth online play from day one.

Competitive and community plans

2XKO is being positioned as Riot’s next big esports-ready title, with a structured competitive roadmap already outlined for 2026. The circuit is set to kick off soon after launch at major FGC events like Frosty Faustings, Genesis X3, Texas Showdown, and Viennality, giving the game immediate visibility in the fighting game community.

Alongside official tournaments, Riot is backing community events and grassroots organizers, continuing the support that began during Early Access via initiatives like the First Impact program. With strong infrastructure, free-to-play access, and a built-in League of Legends fanbase, 2XKO’s January 20 launch is poised to make a significant impact on the 2026 fighting game calendar.
