India to host Australia for 3 ODIs just before ICC Women's ODI World Cup

Australia women's and India women's side have clashed 56 times in ODIs, with the Women in Blue recording wins just 10 times since 1978.

In a bid to prepare for the biggest tournament of the year, the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, the Indian women’s team is slated to host Australia for a three-game one-day international series at home. The series, announced by the BCCI on May 29, will take place entirely at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 14, 17, and 20.

Preparations before Women’s ODI World Cup

This means that there would be less than two weeks of a gap between the bilateral series and the all-important ODI World Cup. The 50-over tournament is slated to be hosted by India from September 29 onwards. India, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka qualified directly for the World Cup, while Pakistan and Bangladesh secured their spots through the qualifiers held earlier this year.

With India hosting the World Cup for the first time since 2013, the home team will be eager to build form and confidence through this high-profile series against the six-time world champions. The last time India and Australia met in an ODI series was in December 2024, when India toured Australia and suffered a 3-0 whitewash. Now, is revenge on the cards?

Meanwhile, the Women’s World Cup will run from September 26 to November 2, with the final to be played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Mullanpur. Other venues include Vishakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Raipur, and Indore—most of which will be hosting women’s internationals for the first time.

In parallel, the men’s India A side is currently in England and is set for a packed calendar later in the year with Australia A and South Africa A also touring.
