Pakistan qualify for Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 but won’t play in India

All India vs Pakistan matches until 2029 will be played in neutral venue after the two cricket boards reached an agreement last year.

The The Pakistan women’s cricket team has beaten the Thailand women’s cricket team by 87 runs in the Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier 2025 and confirmed their spot in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. The Women in Green were on a 3-match winning streak, having beaten Ireland, Scotland, and the West Indies before and after emerging victorious against the Thai women; they have become the 7th team to qualify for the Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Women’s ODI World Cup qualification

The six teams that had already qualified for the event were hosts India, Australia, Sri Lanka, England, South Africa and New Zealand. The remaining two were to qualify from the Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier 2025. Six teams were in action there, and the two table toppers were to qualify.

Since Pakistan has won four matches with one game still left, they are through. Now Bangladesh, the West Indies, and Scotland remain in the race.

Why Pakistan won’t play in India

Although India are the hosts, Pakistan wouldn’t play any of their matches in India. Last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had reached an agreement that India and Pakistan won’t play any cricket matches in their backyards.

The decision came about after India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. So, India played all of their matches in Dubai. And they made a pact that all India vs Pakistan games will be played at neutral venues until 2029. This means that Pakistani women will play their games outside of India.

The venue for the Women in Green’s matches isn’t known yet. But there is a strong possibility they’ll be played in Sri Lanka. The island had co-hosted the Men’s Asia Cup 2023 with Pakistan and will be co-hosting the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 next year with India.
