Trish Stratus Turns Heel: In advance of tomorrow night’s episode of RAW, WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus sent a mysterious message. Prior to their Women’s Tag Team Championship battle last week on the Red Brand, Lita and Becky Lynch were the targets of an unexplained attack. Against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, Stratus took Lita’s spot. Stratus was a well-known women’s wrestler in the 2000s, but aside from sporadic appearances in WWE, she hasn’t kept very active in the WWE. She has become more active recently and even participated in a six-woman tag bout with Becky Lynch and Lita, who are currently the former Women’s Tag Team Champions, at WrestleMania 39.
Stratus was able to participate even more on Raw last week. Lita was unable to face off against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, the top contenders, and defend her tag championship with Lynch. In order to ensure that the match took place, Stratus took Lita’s place. Because Stratus isn’t the tag champion, I don’t think that should have been for the championships.
With the victory, Morgan and Rodriguez were crowned the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, replacing Stratus and Rodriguez. Stratus attempted to strike Morgan with a Chick Kick, but Morgan dodged it and rolled her up for a School Boy pin. Lynch was unfazed by it and took the opportunity to convince Stratus that everything would be fine even though they lost the championships. Afterwards, Stratus leaped Lynch and changed his position to the heel.
Given that Stratus has spent the most of her WWE career as a babyface, her turn as a heel is extremely significant. She formerly had the reputation of being the John Cena of the women’s division since many of her contemporaries held her up as the ideal to aspire to. But now that she’s attacked Lynch, she’s not really much of a role model.
