- Gunther retains the WWE Intercontinental Championship
Previously at WrestleMania 39 Night 2, Gunther successfully defended the Intercontinental Championship against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus in a Triple Threat Match. Notably, Gunther pinned McIntyre toward the end of the match to get the win.
Thus, since Gunther has pinned McIntyre at ‘The Grandest Stage of Them All’, he might once again pin McIntyre at the upcoming pay-per-view event, WWE SummerSlam 2023, and retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
- Drew McIntyre becomes the New WWE Intercontinental Champion
Previously at WrestleMania 39, McIntyre failed to win the Intercontinental Championship. However, he returned to WWE Money in the Bank 2023 and attacked Gunther following his successful title defense. McIntyre decimated Gunther and picked up the title, thus making it clear that he is still after the championship.

- Matt Riddle helps Drew McIntyre win the title
Previously, Matt Riddle was engaged in a feud with Gunther and the rest of the Imperium. Riddle even faced Gunther at the last Pay-per-view event, WWE Money in the Bank but lost. However, Riddle continued to feud with the Imperium post the PPV event and even teamed with Drew McIntyre to face Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci of the Imperium in a tag team match on an episode of Monday Night Raw. McIntyre and Riddle defeated Kaiser and Vinci in the match.
However, now McIntyre is all set to face Gunther at SummerSlam 2023 for the IC title. Riddle might interfere in Gunther and McIntyre’s match, thus creating a distraction for Gunther. Meanwhile, McIntyre might take advantage of the situation to pin Gunther for the win.
