A referee bump, interference from The Usos, intervention from Sami Zayn, and a save by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn brought an epic, scorching, WrestleMania-deserving main event to a close.

By the time Rhodes uncorked the Bionic Elbow, added his brother’s drop-down uppercut, and hit his opponent with a series of Cross Rhodes, it was evident that he would win the match and have his crowning achievement. Solo Sikoa then returned to the ring and performed a Samoan Spike. Eighty thousand spectators in SoFi Stadium sat in stunned silence as Reigns speared Rhodes as the referee counted to three.
The arena lost all of its life. The goodwill created during WrestleMania 39’s opening night had vanished. Not because Reigns is a great heel, though he is, instead because the organization so many people spent their entire weekends supporting managed to botch the clearest finish in recent memory, the most prestigious night in wrestling was suddenly defined by fury and grief.
