The comparison came to the forefront yet again after Triple H seemingly referred to AEW as “secondary promotion” in the latest documentary surrounding Cody Rhodes’s career.

Cody Rhodes made a switch from AEW to WWE and clarified “personal issue” to be the reason.

Meanwhile, Triple H’s exact words towards Cody Rhodes’s move were, “”To then take that gamble again and say, ‘This is not what I wanted to be. I didn’t want to grow up dreaming to be the champion or the face of a secondary promotion. I wanted to be the WWE Champion.'”

Triple H’s comments didn’t sit well with AEW President Tony Khan. Khan claimed that AEW has taken over WWE in several markets and is extremely proud of that accomplishment.

Khan told, “We certainly won’t be the secondary promotion at all in. We’re no. 1 in the UK, on TV and with a record gate. I have a lot of respect for Cody. I know these weren’t his words, to be fair, but we’re not secondary in a lot of markets – for the first time in a long time, WWE has been secondary in a lot of market. I’m proud of where we’re at and we’re not taking a back seat to anybody.”

AEW has seen a peak rise in recent years but wrestling fans don’t; seem to see it overtaking WWE still. Here’s how fans reacted to Tony Khan’s claims.
