Austin Theory’s in-ring name has been changed and not once. Also, Vince McMahon had a major role to play in it.
A common habit of Vince McMahon was to remove the first names of many of the WWE Superstars. Austin Theory has been a part of this name-changing game too.
Last year, Austin Theory’s name was changed to Theory. Recently Austin Theory spoke to Chris Van Vliet, where he talked about his name change in WWE.
The WWE United States Champion stated “I remember the writer bringing my promo and the promo said, ‘Don’t call me Austin. It’s just Theory’. I was like, ‘What? The name is gone?’. I was wondering why. I spoke with Mr. McMahon about it, and he felt that, you know, Theory could be a name that stood alone. He felt it had enough power behind it. Also, I think he just wanted to get away from that comparison of Stone Cold because we just did the WrestleMania stuff. So I think maybe out of circumstance, that’s maybe why it happened.”(H/T:- Wrestling News)
But, that was not it. Later when Vince McMahon resigned from his position and left the company, the WWE United States Champion’s name was again changed from Theory to Austin Theory.
However, now Austin Theory has a big match all set up ahead of him at WrestleMania 39. Austin Theory will be facing John Cena in a singles match for the WWE United States Championship.
