Fresh allegations of threat appeared against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Friday. During a hearing in the alleged sexual harassment case lodged against the BJP MP by women wrestlers, Delhi Police told Rouse Avenue Court that Brij Bhushan had asked the protesting wrestlers to remain quiet, threatening of dire consequences otherwise.

Reading out statements from the wrestlers who had accused Bhushan of harassment, the Delhi Police counsel quoted Brij Bhushan. “Aage kushti khelni hai toh chup rehna…mei kisi ka career bana sakta hu bigad bhi sakta hu.” (If you want to continue wrestling then stay quiet. If I can make someone’s career then I can destroy it as well), Brij Bhushan had allegedly told a wrestler.
Brij Bhushan had allegedly told another complainant, “Mei dhoti kurta mei kaisa lag raha tha? (How am I looking in my dhoti-kurta attire?)”. The Delhi Police counsel asked the court, “Is this a question to be asked to a girl?”
Only female wrestlers allowed in chambers
The Delhi Police, on the basis of a wrestler’s complaint, alleged that only female wrestlers were allowed to go to the office of Vinod Tomar, the former assistant secretary of the WFI. The complainant further alleged that the door to Tomar’s office was kept locked and he prevented any male wrestlers from going in.
The submissions of the police were made in the presence of the additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Priyanka Rajapoot. Rajapoot had taken over the hearing of the case after the transfer of the judge Harjeet Singh Jaspal to a different court.
It remains to be seen if fresh charges are formed against Brij Bhushan after the fresh allegations.
