Women’s PSL: PCB trumps BCCI – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has outdone BCCI by green-signalling Women’s Pakistan Super League from next year. As per Cricket Pakistan, PCB will hold a PSL-style league for women’s cricketers from next year. As per the report, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja has already given his nod for the tournament.

“Since taking office, women’s cricket has been facing difficulties. Efforts are being made to take steps for the promotion of women’s cricket and women to come forward in every field,” Tania Malik, head of women’s cricket wing, Pakistan said in a press conference.

Tania Malik said the idea was to commence the Women’s PSL this year but the PCB decided against it due to the congested cricket calendar.

Meanwhile, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly promised that a full-fledged Women’s IPL is under planning for a 2023 start. However, apart from that, there has not been much development in this regard.

“We are at the level of formulation to have a full-fledged WIPL. It is certainly going to happen. I strongly believe that next year i.e. 2023 will be a very good time to start a full-fledged women’s IPL which will be as big and grand a success as the men’s IPL,” Sourav Ganguly told PTI last month.

For this year, Women’s T20 Challenge will make a comeback during IPL. The three-team mini-tournament was postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

“The Women’s T20 Challenge will again be back this year in the month of May. Hopefully, in the future, we will be able to host a bigger women’s IPL once the number of women players goes up. But this year, the Women’s T20 Challenge will happen during the IPL playoffs,” Sourav Ganguly told Sportstar.
