With Asian Games near, wait for India Women’s Cricket Team head coach increases

The next series for India Women's Cricket Team will be against South Africa and will take place in September 2023. It will consist of three ODIs and as many T20Is.

With Asian Games 2023 looming near, there is still no clarity about India Women’s Cricket Team back staff, especially coaches. In the latest, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has now suggested holding interviews for the fielding and bowling coaches. This has resulted in a prolong wait for the announcement of India women’s cricket team’s head coach.

The head coach and all coaching appointments, according to Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), would be announced jointly.

“CAC has already conducted one round of interviews and believes a fielding and bowling coach is necessary. After meeting with World Cup staging state associations in New Delhi, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that procedure will take place soon to fill the spots.

Amol Muzumdar is a front-runner to play some role in the backroom setup, although the Indian cricket board has not yet made an official announcement.

Following Powar, batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar received the interim leadership role. His first assignments included the five-match home series against Australia in December 2022, a tri-series in South Africa in January–February 2023 that also included the West Indies, and the T20 World Cup in South Africa. The bowling coach was named as Australian Troy Cooley.

The Women in Blue dropped the bilateral match against Australia, lost to South Africa in the tri-series championship game, and were eliminated from the T20 World Cup after falling to Australia in the semifinals.

India’s next trip was to Bangladesh after the T20 World Cup, and Nooshin Al Khadeer was appointed as the tour’s interim coach. The three-match T20I series was won by the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team by a score of 2-1, while the three-match ODI series finished in a tie at 1-1.

The next series for India Women’s Cricket Team will be against South Africa and will take place in September 2023. It will consist of three ODIs and as many T20Is. Before that, the board will be expected to make the announcement of coaches.
