Virender Sehwag confirms he hasn’t been asked to be BCCI selector

Since the removal of Chetan Sharma, Shiv Sunder Das, an ex-Indian player, has been serving as the panel's interim chief selector.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has refuted recent rumours that the BCCI had approached him about becoming the chief selector.

Since Chetan Sharma was fired in February as a result of a sting operation in which he was caught on camera discussing secret information regarding the Indian players and team selection, the BCCI has been without a top selector.

When TOI questioned Virender Sehwag about the possibility of such an offer, he answered, “No.”

Virender Sehwag confirms he hasn't been asked to be BCCI selector. Indian Board is currently searching candidates for selector job.

Since the removal of Chetan Sharma, Shiv Sunder Das, an ex-Indian player, has been serving as the panel’s interim chief selector. The other BCCI selectors are S Sharath (from the south), Subroto Banerjee (from the centre), and Salil Ankola (from the west).

BCCI has now posted a job advertisement for a selector. On Thursday, the BCCI posted a job listing for a member of the men’s selection committee on its website.

The chosen candidate will probably take over as the committee’s new chief selector.

The contender should have either played 30 first-class games, seven tests, or both 10 ODIs and 20 first-class games.

He ought to have left the game at least five years earlier. The application deadline for the position is June 30.

The new selector will be expected to “plan and prepare a strong bench strength” and “appoint a captain for the team in each format” at a time when there are calls for a transformation in the team.
