Legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar became the first player from India to play 100 Tests. He set a benchmark for many Indian cricketers to succeed in the longest format of the game. The 71-year-old also lavished praise on Kohli for getting to this historic landmark.
2: Kapil Dev
Former India captain Kapil Dev comes second on the list. He ended up playing 131 Test matches and was the leading wicket-taker for his team till Anil Kumble broke the record. Kapil is still the best all-rounder India has ever produced.
3: Dilip Vengsarkar
Dilip Vengsrakar has also got to the magical 100 Test matches. A resolute batter during his era, he always put a price on his wicket. He has played 116 Tests and is one of the players to have scored 100 on his 100th Test match.

4: Sachin Tendulkar
The most capped Test player Sachin Tendulkar has played a record 200 Tests. He is also the leading run-getter in the longest format as he has scored 15,921 runs with 51 centuries to his name.
5: Anil Kumble
Leg spinner Anil Kumble is the leading wicket-taker for India with 619 wickets. He is also one of three bowlers to take 10 wickets in an innings. Kumble played 132 Tests and was India’s go-to-spinner in the 1990s and early part of the 2000s.
6: Rahul Dravid
India head coach Rahul Dravid was the team’s most dependable player for 15 years. He still holds the record for most deliveries faced in Test cricket. The former India captain has played 163 Test matches and has scored 13288 runs.

7: VVS Laxman
NCA Director VVS Laxman slots in next. He was part of the Fab Five that ruled Indian cricket for close to 10 years. Laxman’s ability to absorb pressure at number six and win matches was second to none. He played 134 Tests and ended up scoring 8781 runs.

8: Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly started his Test career by scoring a memorable debut Ton. After a brief lull period, the southpaw dominated in the early part of the 2000s by playing an attacking brand of cricket at number five. He played 113 Tests and scored 7,212 runs.
9: Virender Sehwag
Former India player Virender Sehwag was regarded as one of the best openers in Test cricket. He used to play the longest format as ODIs and would get 50 to 60 runs within 15 overs. Sehwag has tormented opposition bowlers with his fearless stroke play.

10: Harbhajan Singh
Former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh formed a lethal combination with Anil Kumble and was instrumental in India dominating in home conditions in the 2000s. Harbhajan also played a pivotal in Steve Waugh not winning a Test series in India. He ended up picking 32 wickets and since then played over 80 Tests for India.

11: Ishant Sharma
The latest player from India to play 100 Tests. Ishant Sharma was the leader of the pace attack up until the England series in 2021. Sharma blossomed under Kohli’s captaincy and took over 100 wickets. He has currently 311 wickets in 105 Tests.
