In an unexpected move, the BCCI have now given the Punjab Cricket Association permission to open the gates to the fans for the IND vs SL 1st Test at Mohali. Earlier, the Mohali Test was set to be played behind closed doors, despite fans being allowed for the games at Lucknow and Dharamshala, while Bengaluru also put out tickets for sale for the 2nd Test.

The decision was met with severe criticism, especially with Virat Kohli playing his 100th Test at the IS Bindra Stadium this weekend. Many fans went as far as suggesting that the BCCI had a vendetta against the ex-Indian skipper, considering their rocky relationship over the past few months. Nonetheless, the BCCI retracted on their stance, with PCA treasurer confirming that online sale of tickets will begin starting on Wednesday, March 2.

“We got the communication from BCCI about the allowing of fans for the 1st Test match at Mohali. So far, we will allow online sale of tickets from Wednesday onwards. Fans will be there to watch Virat Kohli play his 100th Test match.” said RP Singla, treasurer, PCA told the Indian Express.
