- Emma Raducanu burst into the scene out of the blue last year by entering the US Open as a qualifier and went on to win her maiden Grand Slam title without dropping a single set in the tournament.
- That victory catapulted her into the top bracket of the world rankings and in January this year she began her maiden WTA season with huge expectations on her.
- However it has so far not been her best season as she suffered numerous injuries and is yet to go past the quarterfinal in any tournament in 2022.
- At the Grand Slam this year, she bowed out from the second round at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. She hopes for a much better show at the US Open this year but is placed in a very tough quarter.
- She is likely top face players like World No.40 Alize Cornet, 2022 Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins, reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina all before the quarterfinal.
- However Raducanu injured her right wrist during a practice session ahead of the US Open and was seen visibly in tears. Though the teenager has brushed off any injury concerns, it remains to be seen how the teenager copes up with the pressure of the defending champion tag.

- Alize Cornet started the season with a first round defeat at the Melbourne Summer Series 1. At the year’s first Grand Slam tournament she made it to the quarterfinals where she lost to Danielle Collins in straight sets.
- On clay courts, she failed to go past the third round in any tournament at the French Open she withdrew from the third round after a thigh injury forced her to retire during the match against Quinwen Zheng.
- At the Wimbledon, she pulled off one of the biggest upsets as she brought to an end Iga Swiatek’s 37 match win streak by defeating the World No.1 in the third round in straight sets.
- She however couldn’t go past the fourth round at the Grass court major as she lost to Ajla Tomljanovic in three sets.
- Ahead of the US Open she made it to the semifinals at the Tennis in the Land and lost to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in three sets.
Emma Raducanu vs Alize Cornet Head-to-Head: Both the players will be facing each other for the first time in their career. Emma Raducanu enters the contest as the favourite but Cornet is an opponent that cannot be taken lightly. Having defeated Swiatek at a Grand Slam earlier this year, Cornet is expected to come well on her day in any surface. It is expected to be an exciting affair and might go down the wire.
