At UFC 180, Rodriguez faced Leonardo Morales in the main event and won by unanimous decision to claim the victory and a contract with the organisation.

At UFC 284 in Australia back in February, Rodriguez put on one of his greatest performances to date. He out-kicked Emmett with his explosive kicking style before submitting him in the second round with a triangle choke.

  1. Yair Rodriguez vs Chan Sung Jung: Yair Rodriguez’s bout with Chan Sung Jung was the most shocking and harsh manner he could have recovered from his first UFC defeat.

At UFC Fight Night 139 in November 2018, Rodriguez and “The Korean Zombie” pounded each other for nearly all five rounds. The two fighters stood in front of one another for the last ten seconds of their main event to exchange blows. With one second left, Rodriguez caught Jung with an upward elbow that hit flush on his chin, knocking him out instantly.

  1. Yair Rodriguez vs BJ Penn: B.J. Penn, a former two-division champion, came out of retirement to face Yair Rodriguez, a #10-ranked featherweight contender.

The battle began with a kick from Rodriguez. When Penn’s spinning kick failed to connect, he was in a body hold against the fence. Penn dodged a jumping kick and connected with a jab. Rodriguez kicked Penn in the head hard and then again. The young Mexican had a staggeringly clear speed advantage. Rodriguez was able to catch “The Prodigy” with a flying knee and a knee to the body. Penn was weakened by an inside leg kick. Penn was pushed back by another flying kick. BJ managed a counter right hand, but he was otherwise being kicked in every direction. Rodriguez was putting on a show and delivering kicks with real snaps.

A front kick and a right hand in the second round both quickly knocked out Penn. Penn has never before been knocked down before.

  1. Yair Rodriguez vs Andre Fili: Yair Rodriguez had one of his best moments in UFC when he faced Andre Fili at UFC 197 IN 2016.

Rodriguez dominated Fili in almost all areas, out-grappling him and out-striking him for the majority of the fight. That all came crashing down when Rodriguez hit a jumping switch kick that connected cleanly on Fili. It was a brutal KO that got Rodriguez a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

  1. Yair Rodriguez vs Charles Rosa: Rosa’s poise and knowledge had Rodriguez (5-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) work hard over the course of three rounds. Rosa (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) made a comeback in the last frame to keep the scorecards close. However, Rodriguez was successful and later misplaced his lunch.

The main event of today’s UFC 188 event at Mexico City Arena featured a featherweight contest. After the preliminary matches on FX and UFC Fight Pass, it broadcast on pay-per-view.
