In his illustrious career, Jon Jones, the current UFC heavyweight champion, has defended his title against six men who have held the UFC light heavyweight title (Shogun Rua, Rampage Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort, and Daniel Cormier); one against Cormier, who previously held the UFC heavyweight title; and one against Ryan Bader, who previously held both the Bellator heavyweight and light heavyweight titles.

He should be 28-0 and is currently 27-1 after being wrongfully disqualified from a 2009 fight with Matt Hamill. Most observers consider Jones to be the best MMA fighter in the sport’s nearly 30-year history, which is also why, despite Islam Makhchev’s significant challenge, Jones continues to be ranked No. 1 on the Yahoo Sports pound-for-pound rankings.

Jon Jones Is The Best MMA Fighter Irrespective Of Islam Makhchev Being A Serious Challenge

To become the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Makhachev has put in a valiant effort. At UFC 294 he defeated featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in the first round, improving his record to 25-1. He has done much more to merit the position, but we’ll get to that in a moment. Let’s take another look at what Jones has accomplished.

He has defeated seven men who have won titles in the UFC, Bellator, or ONE, going 10-0 with seven finishes. In none of those fights has he ever come close to losing or being in danger. He has defeated skilled fighters like they were amateurs.

On Nov. 11, the UFC 295 main event will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York with Jones taking on former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. Jones has faced some of the best opponents in UFC history, including Miocic, who is largely regarded as the best heavyweight in UFC history.

The recent run of Makhachev is outstanding. Since his lone defeat, a first-round knockout loss to Adriano Martins at UFC 192 on October 3, 2015, in Houston, Texas, Makhachev has won 13 straight fights, finishing eight of them.
