Michael Chandler not only wanted to beat Conor at the scheduled fight, which has been announced to take place at some point this year but also wanted to defeat the former champion in TUF 31 as a coach. Michael during an interview said that he aimed to be better than Conor in each and every aspect, be it as a friend, a lister, a coach, or in any way possible before he even came into the show.
Michael did not just bond with his team as a coach but dived deeper into the other areas of their lives which got him to be emotionally attached to them, as he says that these relationships, he will have them for his lifetime. He assumes that being a catalyst in the lives of his fighters, to give them and their family a chance to make a better future for themselves is the best part of being a coach in TUF 31.

Michael believes that while fighting considering, things that are inside of your mind is much more important than what is happening outside in the cage.
Chandler, while he was acting as a coach for TUF 31, he spared no time for his personal training for his fight against Conor. He said during the interview that his standard for his workout is crazy hard, and dealing with the career and emotions of eight different fighters, he didn’t want to compromise at all, which is why he made sure to divert his complete attention to his team.
