5. Charles Oliveira vs Justin Gaethje: Number five on our list of top title bouts of 2022 is the lightweight contest between Charles Oliveira vs Justin Gaethje. The two went at it from the first bell and gave fans a great first round. Both fighters threw everything they had at each other in the first round. However, in the second round, Oliveira’s grappling proved to be the difference, and he retained his belt.
4. Julianna Peña vs Amanda Nunes 2: One title bout that went under the radar in 2022 was the rematch between Julianna Peña and Amanda Nunes. The bout had everything. From great striking to quality grappling, and provided a spectacle to fans. Ultimately, Nunes got the better of Pena with a unanimous decision. However, the two fighters did enough to make our list of top five title bouts in 2022.
3. Israel Adesanya vs Alex Pereira: Starting the top three is the middleweight bout between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira. The two put on a great fight, with Adesanya getting the better of Pereira in the first four rounds. However, Pereira always looked threatening and finally knocked Adesanya out, out of nowhere, in round five. Just an incredible fight with incredible drama.
2. Glover Teixeira vs Jiri Prochazka: Runner-up on our list is the title bout between light-heavyweights Jiri Prochazka and Glover Teixeira. The two provided entertainment of the highest quality, not leaving anything behind. And although Glover had the better of Prochazka in the first four rounds, the Czech fighter pulled out one of the submissions of the year to claim the title.
1. Kamaru Usman vs Leon Edwards: Number one on our list is Leon Edwards’ stunning victory over Kamaru Usman, to become the welterweight champion. Usman controlled the fight until the last ten seconds. However, this fight was the epitome of UFC title fights. And Edwards provided one of the biggest moments in UFC history, knocking out Usman in the last ten seconds with a precise head kick.
The Englishman followed it up with a post-fight interview that was fitting for a knockout of that caliber. Therefore, it was a no-brainer for us to have the Usman-Edwards bout as our number.
