Top 5 submissions in the UFC in 2022

5. Khamzat Chimaev vs Kevin Holland: Number five on our list is Khamzat Chimaev’s impressive D’Arce Choke against Kevin Holland. While this fight was on the back of Khamzat missing weight and botching his fight against Nate Diaz, the win was very impressive nonetheless.

Holland had only one submission loss before his defeat to Chimaev. However, ‘Borz’ showed his superior ground game and finished Holland in just a little over two minutes.

4. Charles Oliveira vs Justin Gaethje: Number four on our list is one submission that is slightly underrated in our opinion. Charles Oliveira took on the former interim champion, Justin Gaethje, as his second title defense. And the Brazilian showed off all his skills.

After an impressive first round where both fighters went at it, Gaethje had Oliveira hurt badly. However, ‘Do Bronx’ came out and choked out the American with a rear naked choke to defend his belt.

3. Jiri Prochazka vs Glover Teixeira: Starting our top three submissions of 2022 is Jiri Prochazka’s victory over Glover Teixeira to become the light-heavyweight champion. The two put on a fantastic fight for the first four rounds. Many even consider it the fight of the year.

And despite Texeira getting the better of Prochazka in the four rounds, the Czech fighter showed his class. And although it was not pretty, the nature of the fight, the timing of the submission, and the sheer power in the rear naked choke puts this submission on the podium for us.

2. Jessica Andrade vs Amanda Lemos: It would be an incomplete list if we did not include Jessica Andrade’s win over Amanda Lemos. The former strawweight champion made history by becoming the first fighter in UFC to execute a standing arm triangle in round one.

What made the submission even more impressive was that Lemos came into the bout undefeated, and many expected her to beat Andrade. However, Andrade had other ideas and showed why she held the belt.

1. Islam Makhachev vs Charles Oliveira: Number one, our list might raise a few eyebrows. However, we’re going with Islam Makhachev’s crowning moment as lightweight champion. The Russian submitted former champion Oliveira with an arm-triangle choke in round two to become undisputed champion like his coach, Khabib.

However, what made the win impressive was the caliber of his opponent. Oliveria holds the record for most submission wins in the UFC with 16 submissions. This is just a testament to his frankly unbelievable grappling skills. However, Makhachev showed he could match him and go one better. Therefore, for us, this was an undeniable number one.

Which submission do you think was the best in the UFC in 2022?
