UFC News Round up: Islam Makhachev unfazed by Alexander Volkanovski
Before the first defense of his lightweight championship, champion Islam Makhachev brought up featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski’s height, or lack thereof, in almost every interview he gave. Makhachev is taller than the majority of Volkanovski’s rivals. The Russian, who successfully defeated Charles Oliveira in Abu Dhabi in October to claim the title, is 4 inches taller at 5-foot-10 than Volkanovski, who stands at 5-foot-6.
Makhachev is ranked below Volkanovski in the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings, and Volkanovski isn’t too bothered by Makhachev’s verbal jabs. And he believes there are benefits for him there.
He told Yahoo Sports, “It’s a fact that bringing someone shorter like me down is much harder. The struggle is much greater. It will be harder to control that lower center of gravity. I don’t believe he is speaking in this manner for any tactical reason other than the possibility that he believes it is interfering with my thinking. He may be trying to make me realize that I am short because he believes I am tall. Perhaps it’s along those lines.”

In a video posted by the official UFC Twitter account, Dustin Poirier shared his recipe for Louisiana-style chicken wings. The former interim lightweight champion of the UFC does incredible work for The Good Fight company; fittingly, he also produces a hot sauce called Pouirier’s Louisiana Style. The post hinted that he was cooking wings for the upcoming PPV event- UFC 284.

UFC News Round up: Joe Rogan and DC were removed from UFC 284
